To foster leading global talent through international joint research and cooperation with high-level international education programs, the Graduate School of Science offers double degree programs for master’s and doctoral students. A double degree is a study program based on an agreement between Osaka University and an overseas university in which both universities award their own degree to participating students who satisfy each university’s requirements for degree conferment. The Center for the Advancement of Research and Education Exchange Networks in Asia (CAREN) has promoted a double degree since 2014. The Graduate School of Science is currently implementing a double degree program with many universities in the master’s and doctoral programs. In this program, participating graduate students must stay and study at each university for at least one year. A small number of students can participate in this program.
Students participating in the double degree program must start studying at their home university (or sending university) at the beginning of the program. Subsequently, the students enroll in the host university (or receiving university) as a regular student and study to meet the requirement for a degree at the host university. Then the students return to the home university and study toward achieving two equivalent level degrees. In order to be awarded a Double Degree, students must fulfill the requirements at both institutions.
※ The above study period is an example. The details are defined in an additional agreement, “Cotutelle”, for each participant.
