Anisa Ulhusna (Indonesia), Third year of doctoral program

Department of Chemistry, Special Integrated Science Course (SISC)

My name is Anisa, and I’m from Indonesia. I’m a doctorate candidate at the Chemistry Department right now. I have been associated with Osaka University since master student. At that time, I stumbled upon the interdisciplinary, English-taught SISC program on the Graduate School of Science website of Osaka University. This helped me overcome a dilemma because I wanted to study science in Japan but I don’t speak Japanese very well.

As I had very little knowledge of the Japanese language when I first visited Japan, I was nervous. Fortunately, Graduate School of Science has been fantastic in giving me what I need. We can interact with our Japanese friends more effectively thanks to a program called “science buddy.” There is also an international student center, and the staff members are excellent. International students are given the opportunity to experience Japanese culture on a field trip every year. I was able to learn about Himeji Castle and even how to make Japanese sweets because of this trip!

Osaka University offers excellent support and activities in addition to top-notch educational programs. We have many possibilities at SISC to attend lectures given by foreign academics from the US, Europe, and of course Japan. Advanced equipment and easy utilization of literature are just two examples of the many resources available for research. Even better, I have the chance to participate in joint initiatives and research that help me develop my scientific expertise.

Osaka is a dynamic city with a fantastic culinary tradition. It offers excellent access to the rest of Japan, so you may travel easily there to experience as much of Japanese life as you can. In short, living in Osaka allows you to have many good experiences.
