From 19 to 25 January 2025, supported by the “Sakura Science Exchange Program” organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), we invited seven high school students and one teacher (total of 8 participants) from the HUS High School for Gifted Students, Vietnam National University (HSGS), to the Graduate School of Science (GSS), Osaka University.
During the visit, invitees explored semiconductor-related research laboratories at the Toyonaka and Suita campuses, participated in a mock chemical experiment, and toured the Center for Japanese Language and Culture at the Minoh Campus, gaining insights into the research and educational environment at Osaka University. With the cooperation of the Osaka University Tea Ceremony Club, they also experienced the Japanese tea ceremony, deepening their understanding of Japanese culture. Additionally, a visit to Tekijuku provided an opportunity to learn about the history of Osaka University.
Furthermore, students from Hyogo High School, which has an ongoing exchange with HSGS, were invited to participate in part of the program. Together, they visited research laboratories at the Toyonaka Campus and a nearby company (DAIKIN INDUSTRIES, LTD.), learning alongside one another and deepening friendships.
On the final day of their stay, current international students from GSS, as well as students from HSGS and Hyogo High School, introduced their respective schools and student life. Through active discussions, they deepened their mutual understanding.
It is expected that the invited students will, in the future, become international students at Osaka University, partners in international joint research, or even leaders of future Sakura Science Program delegations, serving as bridges for further international exchange.
