Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Asia (SAKURA Exchange Program in Science) “Fostering global talents for the next-generation basic sciences in East Asia” was held in Graduate School of Science

Center for International Affairs in Gradate School of Science (GSS) invited 4 students from Hanyang University (South Korea) and 7 students from National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) to Osaka University from March 6th to March 12th. The SAKURA Exchange Program in Science is an international academic program supported by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) in order to introduce Japanese sciences and technologies to foreign students.

The participants experienced a university tour visiting 6 laboratories of Departments of Chemistry, Macromolecular Science, and Biological Sciences. They took another tour to see cutting-edge research institutes in Osaka University, such as the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, and Institute for Protein Research. They learnt history of Osaka University at Museum of Osaka University and the Osaka University Tekijuku Commemoration Center.

They also visited two companies: Shimadzu Co. and Suntory Global Innovation Center. Through these activities, they learnt the history of industrial researches. Together with students at Osaka University, they had a student-exchange seminar to discuss about their studies.
